I am trying to create a new sub category but I dont know if I am doing it right. I have a piece of furniture and I want to create a subcategory for it under the furniture family. I first place the object in the floor plan then I click on it and edit family the I go into settings then object styles and then I add a new subcategory. Then I highlight the object and go into the properties and change the subcategory to the one I just created. I then load it into my project. But in the floor plan it does not recognize it as the subategory I placed it under. When I turn off the subcategory in VV it does not disapper. Am I setting up the subcategories wrong? If so how do I create a subcategory?

What you described is the correct process... Can you post the family for us to have a look at OR if you don't want to do that post a screenshot of each property you set.

Attached is snapshots of what I have done. I have also attached the family but it happens to all the pieces of furniture including the ones on revit as well as the ones I have downloaded from revit city. Thanks for looking into this!

I think there is a more elegant solution to NIC items. I define a shared parameter called NIC that is applied to all categories as a yes/no type. Then if an item is NIC you check the box on. Then I define a filter that checks for NIC = true and over-ride the linework to hidden. This allows you to use any family and use a NIC linework via applying a filter to the view.

Your refrigerator "family" has symbolic lines drawn in plan view that are not on your new subcategory "N.I.C." These symbolic lines currently reside on the "Specialty Equipment" category. This could be your problem.

It is a slightly complex procedure, but well worth the effort in my estimation. I did some quick screen shots and created a PDF tutorial for you to follow.
