Hi all, Please forgive if I somehow post this twice. I thought I had posted it previously but I can't find it. Anyway I'm using RAC2008(Student Version) and I need some door models that I don't seem to be able to locate. I need a standard exterior half-light door and aa exterior raised panel with a single sidelight where the side light glass is three section and is only on the top half of the panel. I've looked everywhere I know to look and I'm confused because both of these should be relatively common items. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Respectfully, Chuck Reel

My suggestion would be to find one that best suites your needs or comes the most close, and modify it to be what you need. If you have a door and sidelight that is close to what you need aside for some minor details, like lets say mullions on your sidelight, it should be fairly easy to add mullions to that sidelight to acheive the look you are looking for.

Thanks, Brandon I've never really messed with modifying families. Do you know where I might find a decent tutorial on creating doors and or modifying existing doors to add/delete specific features? For example, lets say I found a full-lite door and I wanted to use it to create a door with half-lite at the top and raised panels at the bottom. How do I create those features, and how do I make models fully parametric so that the may be of use to others? I've looked at a couple of books and neither of them seem to address this sort of manipulation. Respectfully, Chuck Reel

Families can be very complicated and confusing, they can eat you up and spit you out if you dive in head first without some prior knowledge. My suggestion would to get some kind of formal training from a providor. I know it may be spendy, but it is well worth it for the knowledge you can gain. Going to a class and having other students around you working on the same project and having the same issues and being able to ask those questions to a well knowledgable instructor will be more helpful than any tutorial could be. I've sent Revit users to CAD Technology Center (cadtechnologycenter.com) for some formal training (they have a specific course for just families!). I'm not sure if there is a company like that around where you are, but it would be worth the research. On the other hand DGcad.com provides many online video tutorials, some for free and some you have to pay for, but I can be extremely helpful. Hope this helped

Have you done the tutorials that come with Revit? There is one called creating a door family. The window tutorial is also quite good. Tim

I have just started a 17 part series of articles on creating your own custom components. Once you have digested and understand this info, you'll be churnin' out all sorts of things (including doors and windows). Part 1 can be found here:- http://www.revitzone.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=692&Itemid=34 I'm hoping to publish 1-2 parts per week. We have "Study Group" forums on the site, so you can ask any questions as we proceed week-by-week. Everyone is VERY welcome. Making your own components from scratch is great fun! And once you can do, the (revit) world is your oyster! Regards, Ian
