Can anyone help? I download Andersen window family, save it as a new a family an erased the sub deviation grill but when insert it to the model I receive a error message ‘ can’t make type Andersen…..’ And I have to delete the family,When try to insert the original it is OK.

I receive the  same message when inserting Velux rooflight.

i get this message all the time. the way i 'try' and fix it, i only say that because sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt. is to start over, copy the original back into a new family or modify the existing family and save as. but what i have found is that there could be 2 things, one the family type could be wrong for instance i was making a vanity with 3 sinks, howvever i loaded it and cant make type error. so i for got that i had to change it to a plumbing family. the other thing that i have notice are that there are constraints that you may have unknowingly deleted. if either of those dont work i know it sucks and takes longer but you have to model them back up from scratch. i dont know if youve seen this yet but its from bim(x). Phase 4 is so true. hth a little bit.

The Six Phases of a Revit User

Phase 1 - Initial ExcitementWow! Look at what BIM can do: clash detection, estimating, scheduling! Does it get any better?Phase 2 - First BumpWait - I actually have to model design documents because the architects I work with aren't using it? Phase 3 - Ignorance is Bliss StageThis isn't so bad. Creating models isn't too much work. Model a wall, phase it, export a schedule to Excel, clash in Navis. This is nice.Phase 4 - WTF StageI have to change my process!?!Phase 5 - EnlightenmentThings are starting to make sense. You have begun to develop and implement a process. You aren't completely out of the woods, but you know that you can get through implementation. You are starting to find other BIM-savvy partners: owners, designers, subcontractors and even other buildersPhase 6 - Zen of VDCYou no longer say BIM; you understand that BIM is just a buzz word for something called virtual design & construction. You easily collaborate with owners, designers and subcontractors, without a thought about legal implications. Superintendents and project executives alike reference the model when discussing potential issues.

Thanks for the answer, I have try your suggestions and check the family type which defined as  window family and I was carefully not to erase anything at all except the extruded element making the window grill but stile that error message appear. In regard to phase 4, well I know why, Revit concept is much better then AutoCAD but not as slick software as AutoCAD hopefully one day it will.

with every well not release but update. it is seeming to become better. but if you remember back to AutoCAD say R14, it was a piece of crap compared to AutoCAD 2008. However, I know that BIM is the future and to be able to apply any piece of information into your model and show the change of things realtime would have been unheard of with a few years ago. Economicly speaking it is the smartest, most efficently productive means we have now to create sustainable design. A small aside, I am currently in the process of writing a paper about the economics of BIM with concentration on the effects of Energy Analysis through Sustainable Design. I think i might post it on here when im finished with it, so if you interested keep an eye out.
