Greetings everyone! I have been on another planet for the past few months (Viz), with my head in a book (and Autodesk Viz book), so I think I missed something.

I noticed on Autodesk's website that under "Architecture" there are only 3 choices now - Autocad Architecture (I guess formerly ADT), and then a "Revit Architecture" and a "Revit Acitecture Suite".

Looking at my shelf, I see that I have "Autodesk Autocad Revit Series-Building 9.1," and the subscription to match. I guess that means that I belong to the "Revit Architecture Suite" family now? I am guessing the non-suite doesn't include Autocad...

Any help or clarification on this matter would be appreciated, as I am thoroughly confused. Thanks!!!

AJ

Yes, these are the new releases of our favorite software. Like you, I have the Revit Series 9.1 with subscription, so we can both expect to receive Revit Architecture 2008 along with AutoCAD 2008 in the next few weeks. Yeehaw!

Autodesk's web site has been updated with info about the 2008 products. The minimum RAM requirement for Revit is still 1GB, albeit with 4GB recommended. Happily, I fall closer to the recommended minimum. Still, it will be interesting to see how it performs compared with 9.1. As far as Autocad 2008's requirements, I couldn't care less. I will be using that as little as possible.

Well, I wouldn't use Autocad at all either, except that everyone that I have to share electronics files with - the structural engineer, truss engineer, mechanicals, civils - they all use Autocad.

So basically, I do all the design phase in Revit, then export to dwg and build the construction docs. Using it this way does not really take advantage of Revit's full functionality, but with complex residential designs (with tons of major revisions) and the need for color presentation, it certainly is a tremendous advantage.

Ah, but I do with that I could never leave Revit...hopefully that day will come....

We also had the same problem with sending our documents to other

consultants, these days we send them in pdf formats otherwise they use

our CAD drawings and hardly do any extra work! Now that we give them pdf's

we get better results from them! And we know now they they understand our

buildings better -  because they have to go through the documentation and make sure they do not miss anything!

Enjoy Guys

Keep me posted!

This is the hardware spec on the Autodesk website for Revit Architectiure 2008, I like how the "system requirements" includes Windows Vista but "system reccomendations" is for Windows XP. I gues it's not taking any advantage of the new OS?

System Requirements:
  • Intel® Pentium® 4, 1.4 GHz, or equivalent AMD Athlon® processor
  • Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Enterprise, Business, Premium, or Ultimate; Windows® XP Professional, Home Edition, or Tablet PC Edition (SP1 or later); or Windows® 2000 (SP4)
  • 1 GB RAM
  • 3 GB free disk space
  • 1280x1024 monitor and display adapter capable of 24-bit color
  • Internet connection for license registration
  • MS-Mouse compliant pointing device
  • Microsoft® Internet Explorer® 6.0 or later
System Recommendations:
  • Intel Core® 2 Duo 2.40 GHz, or equivalent AMD Athlon processor
  • Windows XP Professional (SP2 or later)
  • 4 GB RAM
  • 5 GB free disk space
  • Dedicated video card with hardware support for OpenGL® spec 1.3 or later
  • Two-button mouse with scroll wheel
