The best place is where you want to practice architecture.  Fortunately for us, there is a booming construction industry and with the help of the internet and advances in communication firms can work on projects around the world from an office in Kalamazoo if they wanted to.  The problem, of course, is that you're not goign to be doing Architecture work for quite some time.  Unless you're just ungodly in your design and project management skills, you'll be doing some CAD operating for a while.  Develop a sense of what type of architecture YOU want to do for a living and do some research on where that architecture happens.  For me; I want to practice on the West Coast of USA or in Japan.  Australia / New Zealand being a close second.

However, you may want to run spell check on any resumes you are handing out... Winking

Best of luck!

yea i know i need spellcheck. but i was planning on practing in the Floridia area, specfically around Naples. thats the stlye that i like, the Flordia/Med/Beach.

as of right now in my 5th hour, which is split between the Architechtual Drafting class, which i took last year, and the Machine drafting class which im in right now, and recently has become the anti-french class. since lately all weve been doing is bashing the french. and im the one person that people come to if they are having problems with revit, or need a better explantion.

... used to practice in Naples...

turned to consulting now, to try something new.  if you want to practice here, there is ample opportunity, you just have to know where to look.  first things, first, you are gonna need to bring your A game, as this is one of the most spectacular places in the country, where there's the best of the best.  depending on what types of work you want to do, there's more or less opportunity.  in your case, try to find your "niche" if you will, and then pursue it in college.  Going to University of Miami will put you in South Florida.  Then you will need to take an internship or work in the field part time while you attend school.  they will not teach you how to be a useful employee in college, but rather how to think and process information.  there's no substitute for work experience.  You could also attend University of Florida, which will put you in warm weather, something that will be essential to learning the indigenous nature of architecture and construction in this environment.

Hope that helps.  Good luck, and learn Revit well, as by the time you are ready to contribute, Revit skills will be in high demand...

hey, Hammer87

you bettter check out the MET requirements, i don't think you can use at private institutions

Lawrence Tech is a private university

i'm not 100% sure about this, but it can't hurt to check it out

not only will you have to take the ARE (Architectural Resgistration Exam). but before you can take that exam you will have to complete the IDP (Intern Developement Program) program. When i did it , it was a three year process of which one year had to come after you completed your Professional or Master's degree requirement for registration. we were allowed to complete 2 years of requirements while in school

i know things have changed since then. they even have what is called IDP certified firms now. Which i think allows you to complete all the IDP requirement within a single firm now.

The way it has been explained ot me is that you need to be classified as a Junior in an accredited Architecture degree in order to qualify for IDP.  You may want to contact your local AIA branch to see if your education path qualifies.

Speaking of which, I need to contact my local AIA branch and do the same.

Look here to find your local AIA 'component.'  I guess I need to get on the ball with IDP since I've been working full time for 3 years now, huh?
