Hi,
I received a large library that I have to work with. The creators of the library included a "bounding box" for clash detection that was assigned to a subcategory of "EqiupSpace". I can't figure out how this extrusion was created. Attached is a stripped down family named "Test Family.rfa" and an example family "Stand.rfa". (both Revit 2016 families)
1) In the Test Family, how was the second extrusion created? It can't be deleted and has two handles in one direction.
2) There is actually a way to delete the extrusion: When I grab the top handle and drag it over the invisible dividing line between the two parts with the 2 handles on the let, I get an error that says that it can't create the extrusion. At that point I'm able to "delete element".
3) The Floor Plan has 6 dimensions, 2 can be deleted and 4 of them cannot be deleted. What is the difference between them?
I'm only attaching Stand.rfa as a sample file with this special extrusion that I can't delete or create. I'm using Revit Architecture 2016. Any help is very much appreciated.
Thank you, Thomas

Crazy! Just opened your Test Family and played with it a bit. I got no flipping clue what's going on with that geometry. You can't even copy it. Very, very strange indeed! I'm like a dog with a bone right now trying to figure it out. It's driving me nuts. Please, one of you pros take a look at this and enlighten us. WW, you out there?
...Could be a traced object originally where the user "picked lines" and locked the sketch lines to the source linework.

It has two handles on one side because the sketch has two lines along that side.
The element may be corrupted in the file. Send to Autodesk.

This thread is a bit old but ran into the same problem with a domestic range family. One way to delete this extrusion is to grab the shape handle in the floor plan view "Ref. Level" (the top or bottom one in this case) and then pull it down or up to create an error in Revit "can't make extrusion.". Of the two options 'delete element(s)' or 'cancel', select 'delete element(s)' and it does the trick. Otherwise I have no idea why this can't be deleted, it may very well be a corrupted file, because it would appear that you should be able to. None of the sketch lines can be deleted either, the object cannot be copied or mirrored, all of the operations are grayed out.

For some objects in this large library I mentioned, the trick with pulling the handle of the extrusion to a location where it can't create the extrusion works - in other cases it simply flips back to where it was wthout the option to delete it.
But since nobody seems to have experienced this it must be that many of those library objects are corrupt.
Thanks for the help though!

In the test file as well as the file I had issues with you should be able to split the line in sketch mode and stretch the end points to make an odd shape that will generate the error when pulling the grip.
I also noticed another weird quirk when testing the split tool. You can split the line very close to the drag point so that one of the lines is too small and if you split it on the 'correct' side of the line it deletes the line that couldn't be deleted previously. After doing this to all lines and all lines are deleted in sketch mode you can sketch a new shape and any of these lines can be deleted or modified as normal. However after finishing editing mode the 'new' shape still cannot be deleted.
I will try a few things tomorrow and see if I have any other solutions.
