A residential model does not highlight elements in blue when my cursor moves over them, only once I select does the element turn blue. This is an issue because the preview function of selection allows me to choose a string of walls or edges. Also, even though my model is in hidden line, things are showing up as partially transparent. I have attached an image showing this. I have restarted revit and this issue persists.

Probably a video card / driver issue.  Turn off hardware acceleration.  Also make sure you have all your updates installed for whatever Revit you are using .... should always say.
