Yes, & Yes. If you need a curtain wall door, I am pretty sure Revit ships w/ at least one. If not just reply back & I can send you one. You can put a family file (ex: a light) anywhere you want in a 3D model. If you are having trouble putting one in it is probably because it is a wall or ceiling based light. which means that it can ONLY go in a wall or ceiling. You need to change it so it is not wall or ceiling based, which is pretty easy to do in the family editor. On a side note, it sounds like you are fairly new to Revit. I highly recommend attending some sort of training class or have an experienced user work with you & your staff to take full control of the features in Revit. I speak from experience, training was the best thing that I could have done while making the switch. Jon.

Check your Visibility Graphics (VG) setting. See if the Curtain wall doors are turned off throught their Category / Subcategory.

Hmmm... it could be a setting within the family, but I can't say for sure. If you want to email me the file I can take a look at it, but I am leaving here at 5:00 (less than 20 mins) so I may not get it until tomorrow. Here is my email: jramos@mds-bos.com Don't give up, I'm sure that you will be able to figure it out. You can learn a lot by just exploring the software while trying to figure out a problem that you have.

open up your doors family folder, load the following: Curtain Wall Dbl Glass.rfa and Curtain Wall Sgl Glass.rfa Once these are loaded, select the panels that you want to convert into doors and from element properties choose the above instead of system panel/empty panel.. does this work? You can also tweak family materials for the glass panels and convert them into wood or so... hope this helps.... To attach a light to a column, simply create a wrap around with a wall or use the create command. thats the only way i can think of to work around the problem of host dependent light sources.....
