Do you all have instructors that teach the program or do are you all self-taught? I've have several books on revit 8... I have 8.1 (not much difference) but theres alot more things I wish I knew. Problem is I don't have anyway of learning how.

gerryho6, i don't understand what you mean by you don't have anyway of learning how
i know you can read. this revit ball game is still early in the game.
you just have to read all you can, vist all the blogs you can. take advantage of all the free webcast or demos that are available. Revit is now going to be an over night process, i don't care what anyboby says. just about every major firm in my area has a pilot programs in revit
find a way to learn !!!!!!
hope this helps
best regatds,
coreed,aia

I didn't mean to word that the way I did. I meant to say I have read through the books on the program, and I have been through the free online seminars at the Autodesk Website. I was trying to say that I am wanting to learn more, for example: working with curtain walls, mullions, making commercial structures, and most of all custom objects. I understand that Revit is a massive program and it will take a while to learn.
I am going off to college as early as June. Where to? I don't know yet. I am hoping that I can recieve training on Revit there. My overall goal is to graduate from Southern Polytechnic State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Architecture.
Recently with the short amount of experience I have in Revit, I entered the AIA Atlanta Chapter Highschool contest. I made it through 3 rounds of cuts out of 178 students, however I did not place. I do believe I did ok considering the fact that I have totally learned Revit on my own. I know that some highschools teach the program, mine does not. I've had better luck in contest by SkillsUSA / Vica but I did not use Revit. I used the architectural desktop, and I placed 1st in Region, 4th in State last year, 2nd in region this year, state is next month.
I don't mine sharing that background information, and I am willing to learn. I hope someone is willing to sacrifice the time to teach. Being self taught has its advantages and disadvantages.
Thanks.
Gerry

If you want, I will send you pictures of my small commercial project I had to design. I recently saw another contestant post their project on Revit City (Gallery). I can take critizim, but I'd rather send it by e-mail.

gerryh06,
that would be fine.
just about all my computer/software training is self taught also
just as it for alot of the users on this forum
i think that when you get to college you are going find that your revit skills are already beyond what is being taught in the freshman classes, if it is being taught at all. lots of schools are in the being stages of introducing revit also.
best regards,

I have revit at home and at school. My teacher doesn't teach the program and doesn't know anything about it hardly. I've been through the books, maybe I should go through them another time. Curtain walls and massing or creating custom pieces whether it be walls, windows, to furniture and appliances give me trouble alot of the time. Ref. Planes I've discovered are the key, but can be very confusing (at least to me). I'm also wanting to learn how to do commercial projects ( i.e: dealer ships, stores, etc.) alot has to do with the exterior. I see alot of good examples of what I would like to accomplish here on the RC Gallery, but have really no clue were to begin. Anyone willing to help teach me a little with that part?
