Hi all.

We are using Revit 2013 and are a foodservice consultant.  The most complicated piece for us to model are millwork cabinetries because it is very often not a linear design.  Their are curves and all types of shapes....

This complicated things when it comes to sections because we have to detail everything in a drafting mode as we use extrusions for the millwork bodies which give us nice renderings and profiles for sections.  But no detail as to what is really going on in that cabinet.

Is there a way to make a detailed cabinet family and when we insert it pick a model line or some other element within the model and my family would "follow" that path.

Kind of like a sweep, but with an entire family?

If so that would be an AMAZING timesavor if we take the time to make the family right.

Sorry - no way to do this - you would have to sweep individual elements.

I'm not sure before i see the shape of your millwork model, but how about using railing? railing can have repeatative panels, and contisuous sweep rail in one family.

or, adaptive component can be used i guess.

The attachment is a pdf of some presentation material we created for a client.  You can see the millwork final design here.  We had to model this all individually.  I know the finishes could present a problem but very often we have uniform finishes on cabinets and I would love to be able to have millwork follow a path.

Thanks for all your help all!  I would hope there is a way, but understand there may not be.

That is what I get for trying on a slow internet connection.  It must have dropped out.

We do this kind of work all the time in our hotels but we don't do them as a family.  Sometimes, we may use family elements if there is more than one of something but in most cases, this kind of work is best done, in-place - as casework.  In the project, you can pick 3D paths for sweeps using millwork profiles.

But the millwork profile will not give me enough detail to easily generate a section, correct?  That is what I was looking to achieve but if no way, there is no way...

Have you looked at the millwork profiles available?  Look at one of the stock ones I attached.

why don't you insert detail components to the profile?

you can discribe all kinds of details with detail componets at section views.

watchi this.
