When I place a room tag I can get area of a room to show but if I switch it to volume it always say "not computed".  What am I missing or doing wrong?

You need to turn on the volume calculations manually.  The area computation is on by default, volume is not. "Home" tab, click the "Room & Area" button, then click "Area & Volume Computations."
