I have a wall type that has gray shade for the metal stud and the gyp. board, and for the brick is showing maroon as the material. I wanted to change the maroon color to a just white and black color, but on the surface to still show maroon. I know is complicated but I hope I can find some kind of help. Thanks in advance guys.\

Carlos.

It's quite easy to change the thickness of the layers within a wall.  It's common to make many wall types throughout a project, the one I'm working on now has around 15 walls, none of which were included in the template.

select a wall, in the properties bar hit "edit type"  In type properties hit "edit" in the structure now.  There you will see the materials, and the thichneses that make up your wall.  There should be many threads on these forums that you can search for, for more details now that you know the terminology to get started with customizing wall types.

Often, relevant subjects are suggested at the bottom of the page, too.

To change the colors of the wall assembly you need to modify the materials properties.  There are two ways you can go about this...

1.  Through the Manage Ribbon -> Materials

2.  Through the Type properties of the object (in this case a wall.)  From there, you can edit your compound wall assembly, and edit the materials.  How your wall shades is somewhat dependent upon the graphics style.  There are three options you need to be aware of.

a.  Shading Color

b.  Cut Patterns + Color

c.  Surface Patterns + Color

With that said, you most likely need to control the color through the shading.  The surface pattern, if it is a solid color, can be controlled through the surface pattern.  Select the color you want, and choose solid fill.

I haven't tested this solution, but with some playing around, you should be able to get it to work.

Make sense?
