Everytime I cut an unreferenced section, the depth of the section goes all the way to the edge of the building and I have to zoom all the way out and pull it back closer.  I can't imagine why Revit would do this as a section through hundreds of feet of building does nobody any good!  HELP!

In the section view you can change the far clip distance in the properties box. This is the same as manually adjusting the distance in the plan view or other sections.

A building section by default will go the full depth of the model.  A wall section will only go a few feet.

OK...so how do I specify that I want a wall section?

Your choice ... type ... when you create the section.

If you want the sections to default to the wall type, do the following.

1.  Create a new wall section (change before you place it)

2.  Select the wall section

3.  Use the create similar function (CS) or right click on the element

4.  Escape out of command

5.  Create a section with the section command, it should default to the desired type
