I been working with Revit for about 2 months now (after working with AutoCAD 2d & 3d for 20+ years)

In no particular order:

1. Keep the pivot point inthe midel of the screen when rotating the 3d model. It gets agravating watching the model swing out of the screen when rotating. (this is sim to AutoCAD's orbit command)

2. An autosave instead of the constand reminder. I find it more irratating than the slow down every so often from an autosave.

3. A repeat last command shortcut. weather it is the spacebar of a mouse button.

4. The ablitity to have single key shortcuts that don't blow out any 2 key short starting with the same letter.

5. A way to pin the ribbin parts to one location instead of chasing the commands back and forth along the ribbon for locatin or bring back the small buttons so you can leave them up at all times. This just harks back to the days off pull downs in AutoCAD but with icons instead of text.

6. The ability to use the measure command on the 3d model while looking at the project in isometric.

7. The ability to move an object thru all three dimension at once instead of two or three sets of moves in each plane.

8. The ability to add sererate arrows to text. I like to type in all my text at once then add the arrow afterwards. The current requirements of typing one line at a time and then resetting for the next line is to slow.

1: Revit uses the center of the view as the pivot point, unless something is selected. Then it uses the center of the selected object(s). Before you orbit, select an object you would like to rotate around.

2: This isn't wrong, but I'd disagree with you. I much prefer a reminder instead of forcing me to stop in the middle of what I'm doing.

3: 2011 has this, Enter repeats the last command.

4: 2010 was terrible about this, but 2011 has it fixed for the most part. you can't have contextual tabs/panels without a few things moving around, but it's not too bad.

8: Not sure what you're talking about with this one, you can place text then add leaders, or place the leader then the text.

Some of these are possible.

1. During an Orbit you can select an object and it will orbit around it.

2. No comment

3. Repeat last command can be accessed in Right Click menu

4. I believe you have to hit space bar or enter after the letter for single letter shortcuts (Not sure cause I haven't used single letter)

5. Ribbon definitely takes some getting used to, but I think in time you will come to like it.

6. No comment

7. No comment

8. Do you mean on "note" for all notes? If so then you would have to come up with some kind of "dummy" arrow to apply arrows to each individual "note".

about points

5: You can actually add some comands to the ribbon ( click the icon with left mouse, add to quick acess toolbar)

6: You can't measure in a 3d view, but you can orient the 3dview oriented to a certain elevation, plan or section. That way you can have both views on tile, and actually watch how it looks like on same way as it is 3d dimensioned ( and change the dimension clicking on the object).

7: You can move in a 3d isometric view, just click move on a left, right, top, bottom, front or back view ( click the cube to gain that view) and click on disjoin tick ( unclick constrain, that will unconstrain from origin host plane). If the element have relationships with dimensions, it loses it.

8: You can add an "invisible" text. Click on the create text icon, there create a dot inside the text box and new type of text, click on size of text, and there put a really small number (like 0.01 mm). There you have a leader that works like an empty leader in autocad.

On few points:

2. I agree with TKennedy. Changing the reminder interval is also possible if desired.

3. ENTER key on keyboard will serve the purpose on 2011 version.

5. Keyboard shortcuts would be useful instead of searching through the ribbon menus. The existing KB shortcuts can be modified and new shortcuts can also be added. I feel it would be better to use ribbon menus at the beginning stage to know which is where.

9. (I would like to add!) How about a desciption note within a project - may be on 'Home' tab - to key in a brief note on anything about that project. This will also be useful for other users if working on the same file to maintain the discpline of the model.

I think making schedules more powerful would be on the top of the list for me...probably higher than anything else.  I can see why you should not be able to convert text to a number, but there is NO reason you should not be able to convert a number to text.  Schedules are very powerful, but when you get to system families such as rebar you are really limited as to what you can do.

As for your list the only one that is see a big issue with is an autosave...I get much less irritated with it prompting me to save on my time schedule and me taking .000001 second to say no, rather than it forcing me to save for 5 minutes while I am in the middle of something.

I really do like #8 though, that would be really nice to see...but I don't see it as a huge issue for me.

interesting.... most of that is possible or useless. for seperate arrows just create a generic annotation that is blank. it can go anywhere as a leader

Sorry for bumping old thread.

But I was doing an online search for issue #1.

I guess there really is no way to change that?? (I'm new to Revit, so I was wondering if there was a way)This is such a disappointment. To have to select an object each time you want to rotate...It's not natural to select an object to rotate around it. When you are building your scene, you are looking at it from a first person point of view. And then you are rotating AROUND THE AREA. that's just like real life.

You wouldn't go and spin your entire building around when you're looking at a bedroom. It's just silly, and I'm quite shocked right now at how backwards Revit is compared to those real 3D programs like Maya, Softimage, etc.And even funnier that Autodesk bought out all those companies and they can't learn a trick or two from them.Revit's a really good program... but it's usability could do a heavy haul over... Even simply giving an option to make changes would be a clever thing to do.

Like tell me... really...When will I ever need to be zoomed in an area, and decided... gee, I wish I could SWING MY ENTIRE project around instead of where my focal point is currently at.
