Hi,

I feel like this is a stupid question, but I can’t work out the answer, so I apologies if this is something obvious.

How do I set a parameter to a negative value when used for moving a Ref Plane?

I am creating a new custom door, and I want to be able to move the frame within the wall from the centre line, I have a parameter from the centre line to the frame.

This works fine if I want to move the door ‘north’ of the wall, I just type the value into the parameter. But I cannot move it ‘south’, I would expect to type in a minus figure, but Revit won’t accept this – “Parameter Door Offset has an invalid value.”

I can drag the Ref Plane manually to set it in the family editor – but if I drag it ‘South’ the figure in the Family Types dialog is always positive.

Am I missing something??

Cheers.

As far as I know, you can't do a negative.  I always set up a base reference plane far enough to one side that my value will always be positive.

I too ran into the same roadblock on stuff where referencing from centerline is preferable. You can use the flip controls when you're creating your family to work around it (i.e. dimension outward by the amount you're wanting to dimension inwards, then flip the item so it's now on the other side of the reference line.
