I'm creating a church pew, and I'd like to be able to stretch it in increments of 18" once I've placed it in my project. I've seen something like this done, but I can't figure out what command I need. I know I can go in and manually adjust the length, but I'm pretty sure there is a smoother way to do this... Any tips? Thanks, erin

hi erin others know much more about families, eg mr spot, but maybe all you have to do is add a dimension to your pew, for length. and then give it a parameter. in families, when you have a dimension, up in the options bar, over to the right is a label choice. choose "add parameter" and give your dimension a label, called say "pew length". then each time you place a pew you can adjust its length, and not just in increments of 450mm or 18". as mr spot has taught us though - watch how you 'lock' things in the family, otherwise it goes strange. as he and others say - flex flex and flex again, while in the family, before using it. hope that helps.

An approach I just played with is a more visual approach since erin wanted to get feedback from Revit while steching the pew in plan. I created a simple family and added an array of symbolic lines in a new category called pew layout. (this allows them to be turned off if desired on final plans). The formula for the array is simply (Length / 1' 6"Winking + 1 Insert this family ino a project and you can use the blue grips on the length of the pew as it is an instance based parameter. The layout lines of 18" in width will appear and you can then use the align tool to change the end of the pew to a layout line. This type of approach may workfor you. Tom

Good idea. Another option would be to setup an integer to control the length (don't believe you'd be able to use the grips in this method - untested). So you basically set the length as an instance parameter and add a formula to it that states length = 18"*integer Now just select the family in the project and change the integer as required and the family will adjust in 18" increments. (not sure whether the grips will appear, but if they do great Smile) HTH.
