I'm trying to make a beam with holes in it.

My Imagined workflow is this:

1. Make a generic family of the beam.

2. Make a generic family of the hole (Void). Load that family into a line based family and make an array.

3. Load the line based family into the beam family and link parameters to each other.

All this works fine, but I can't cut the voids from the solid geometry.

I've tried to load just a generic family vith a void and that won't cut either.

Is it so that voids cant cut if it's placed in a family and loaded into another family with solids (both Generic Models)?

It should work if you use the "cut" command (under Modify / edit geometry) to use make sure the voids cut through the beam.

It doesn't work for me.

If I make a facebased component it works just fine.

But not if I make a Generic Model with a void in it.

I've attached a file with an example.

If you are using Revit structure, open the cellular beam family and see how they constructed that.  If you don't have Revit Structure, download a trial version and it will install the structural families library which is handy to have even if you use Revit architecture
