I've had great results exporting an FBX from Revit 2010 into 3DS Max 2010. The file was a large site with multiple massed buildings and topography. I was easily able to move and animate my Revit FBX file in Max. And that after only first playing with Max a month before and working off of a book!

Moral of the story: In my limited experience Export an FBX to Max if you need to do walkthroughs/animation. Theyhave the same rendering engine as well, so materials all transfer (except for custom materials and decals).

I'm looking forward to playing and learning more in Max!!

the fbx retains the texture information as diffuse, bumps, cutouts, etc, since it use the same rendering engine ( mental ray) and the same materials (promaterials). You still can edit those materials by clicking the eyedroper button in the material slots of max.

it looks better in max, and is faster and it have more customizable settings ( by example i use for all the scenes the draft configuration, but with 5 bounces and the global ilumination on, and "all objects generate and receive gi"button, and gg, the only setting i change is the exposure of mr photographic)
