Does anyone know how to keep the symbolic cutback for joists in coarse representation after dropping the beam to suit the under side of bering seat?

I dropped my beams so that the joist seat are on the top of the flange but on plan I loose the cutback distance

any help would be greatly appreciated, as I want to be able to cut sections form the model instead of drafting them out.

When the stick line is uncooperative, unsophisticated REVITeers like me tend to make the line invisible and redraw with a "Detail Line" of the same lineweight as the stick line with the desired cutback.  Caveat:  this works okay but when we give these files to other disciplines on the team, all linework that was made invisible will show up.

In the element properties dialogue box of the beam the joist is resting upon:

1.  Change 'z-direction justification' to 'Other.'

2.  Change 'z-direction offset value' to your joist seat depth.  If it's 2 1/2" you will input a value of negative 2 1/2".

Revit should still recognize these elements as joined.  I'm guessing you were offseting the joist, but it is the beam which needs to be dropped.

See attached image.

Make sense?
