I want to override a dim with numbers, is this possible in Revit 2010. It only allows me to override with text. I'm detailing and I have break marks between two elements, I need the Dimension to say 48" but I get 6" instead because it is looking at actual distence. Any help is appreciated. Thank You

Unlike AutoCAD and since Revit is a BIM software, you can't do this, so what I do is to create a "mask" with a Text as you can see in the images....

Thanks... good idea.  Seems odd that they allow a text override, but you can't use numbers.

Hi, Firstly I feel it my duty to bang the drum of accuracy at all costs...But I know there are some cases..

I have a cheat, saw it on an Autodesk university web cast. In the "Replace with text" field, right click and insert a "Unicode control Character". These are not visible unless you also opt for them to be shown. You can then ament the dimension without adding any text to the string.

If you don't have the "Uni code" option you will need to install it into windows. I'm a bit rusty on this, but, I think you go to "Control panel" > "Regional & Language Options" > "Languages" and then tick to have "East asian languages" installed. You will need your windows CD, from memory.

Blakely can you elebarate a little more on exactly how that works??

does that allow you to change a dimension or just change the format of one?? this is a very interesting idea. im going to have to strongly look into that one.

Sorry, I am unable to explain the nuts and bolts of it, so I won't even try. All I know is that it does the job.

The URL here http://au.autodesk.com/?nd=class&session_id=2841

will take you to the screencast that demonstrated the hack, it however does't offer any real explainations.

Blakely,

Ok i have installed unicode control character, what i have gather is that this is only a way to "hide" the text you are trying to change. correct??this is not a way to replace the text from what i discoverd, only a way to hide the text so that it can be replaced with the you are wanting??if there is a way to replace the text using this let me know.allen

Bringing back an old thread here -- If you want to override a dimension number with another faked number (I hate being protected for my own good, I actually need this functionality sometimes in detailing) the above method will work very well.  The best unicode character to insert, when you right click on the text override field, is the very bottom one --  "US" UNIT SEPARATOR

if you select that once, it doesn't visibly add a space, or anything, but you'll now be able to enter numbers. that'll exactly match your other dimensions in appearance.  Puh
