I'm currently working on a large project in revit. I have the entire building already done and my file is already very large and has a lot of views (i already deleted views i don't need) Now have to draw details for furniture and custom made casework.

What is the best way to do this so my file won't become to big/complex to handle?- continuing in one file and adding more detail to the families and creating additional views - creating furniture in a seperate file and link it to the main model.

You don't say if you're using worksets, but that may be a good starting point.  Create a new workset for the furniture and divide the project into different worksets.  You can then switch off the information or details that are not relevant or that you're not currently working with and the project will become more manageable.

I have never used worksets until now. I'll have a look at them now.

also, something I have read on here that has been useful for managing file sizes:

Try doing a 'Save As' every once in a while; for some reason this works well.

If you are confident you are far enough along, do a 'Purge' with your project.

Try using the 'Compact File' option when you do a 'Save As'.

I have noted a considerable difference in file size when I have put these options to the test!

MARS1276. I've already been "saving as compact file" for a few months now. I also noticed it made a lot of difference to the file size.

I'll do the purge once my project is complete. But right now i think i might still use some of the items that would be purged.
