How do you make repeating detail items such as wall tapes (this is a generic annotation family with a combination of text and filled region). See attached file, the goal is to make all the family types in this file repeat as it will be drawn to whatever length of the walls would be.

Do it as a line based family rather than a repeating detail.  Here is a link that explains how.  Look at Feb 01.  It explains how to do it with a text value, but you can include hte hatch into the array.
