there i am in the wall opening context menu..

i drew the opening on the wall..

i get some grips and some temporary dimensions..

there is no measuring tools of any kind on the context ribbon..

somebody please tell me how you would maneuver this opening

into the place you want it.. i want it center on that wall horizontally

and 10 feet wide and 9 feet high.. i sure can't drag those grips

and guess- and i don't see all the temp dimensions i need..

please see my attachment..

i might as well throw away another four years of my life on

revit and get nowhere..

Create reference planes and use the align tool to line them up.

thanks very much tim..

please look at my screenshot and see if you can locate

the align tool or even any kind of reference line..

in 2009 i knew where both of those were and they

were right out in the open.. this ribbon has my

face in the mud..

I've always used shortcut keys - RP for reference plane and AL for align, but Reference plane is on the Home tab and Align is on the Modify tab.

so tim- do you think about the fact that to get the

align tool the way you describe you have to first look

down at the keyboard and press the A key and then

lift your whole arm up in the air and then come down

to press the L key? just for the align tool that should

be just a click away with no effort or refocusing your

eyes elsewhere? i'm sorry but i just can't help thinking

this is all just a little bit nuts.. and i've been doing this

for yes- four years..

i'm trying to find somebody that can use a little bit

of logic.. i think they knew we would need access to

tools that were not going to be on the ribbon when

we need them and that's what the QAT was supposed

to be for.. but you can only get so many tools across

there even as ridiculously small as they are..

no you are right- we have to get these tools with keys..

so why don't they make (or even say anything about it)

a keypad for one of your hands that can control all the

tools you need? all i've ever heard about was stuipid

game boy keypads..

do you know anything about a keypad that makes sense?

I've used shortcut keys for years, particularly with AutoCAD, so I find it quite easy.  I don't need to lift my arm though, I just rotate my wrist slightly (probably about 1 cm) and use my first and last fingers.  Of course though, you have the option of changing the shortcut keys to whatever you want, such as AA for align.  I avoid doing this though and learn the default shortcuts so that I can go onto anyones computer and be familiar with the shortcuts.

Using short cuts is much faster when you get used to it as you can keep your mouse in the drawing area - you're effectively drawing with two hands rather than one.

yes i agree with you- it's just that i can't do those wrist rotation

keyboard gymnastics like you can..

i'm just saying- they can spend millions and millions

of dollars developing revit- but completely forget

that someone would actually use it.. otherwise

they would have a keypad for revit.. anything..

but they have nothing.. see what i mean tim?

I'm with TIM too, and you forgot one thing WYS, why don't you put in the Ribbon the "Commands" you use more often?? You can do that, so in this way you don't spend time to search in menus for them....

yes Typhoon- that's why they created the QAT..

i think i like your style Typhoon..

don't fight it- just use it like they intended it to be used..

some keyboard functions- tools on the QAT from one

side to the other and the ribbon.. why not?

thanks Typhoon..
