thanks very much tim-

the problem i had was daryl said when i finished those

four steps in the project browser i was done and could

go back and see bob.. (or that's what i thought)

but i needed to also do what you said BEFORE i could see bob..

what a relief because this is my actual first job building a model

of a mini car wash for a contractor.. he probly won't use it because

my revit skills are pathetic.. LOL  but the sketchup model i made

might look okay.. take a look at it and tell me how you think it looks..

Sketchup image ? Where is this 24" deep fascia board we have all invested so much time in  : ) hehehehe
WYS you should create a basic parametric garage building using levels, grids and reference planes and align / lock the walls, floor, windows and doors to those datums. So then with a few clicks you can instantly create different sized garage plans within minutes. Your sheets and dimensions will update and everything. Then you can keep reselling the same set of garage plans over and over and over with little or no time involved. It would be a great investment in learning and revenue for you.
The customer gives you the desired dimensions then you open REVIT, change a few dimensions and you have a new set of plans. Create a web site called www.InstantGaragePlans.com and sell garage plans online. Offer different Garage Models. Single door, double door, roof dormers....... and start making some $$$
(can't seem to delete the image attached)

thanks daryl- if it wasn't for you i probably wouldn't be

where i am today.. my subscription to your site slipped

a notch just in time to miss out on your RAC 2010 vids-

and i sure don't have $250 as a newcomer to your

site..

as for my sketchup model- that IS a two foot high fascia..

now i'm trying to build a revit model of it.. i just forgot how

to do a fascia.. actually i've forgotten about half of the

things i've learned in four years with revit.. (well

maybe not exactly).. and i've finally surcumbed to

the ribbon- i'm not fighting it anymore- thanks to

Typhoon.. he says just put tools on the QAT and use

a few keys and go with it.. (bless his heart)

but my eggs are all in that basket too..

We are very close to delivering our videos as individual series so the prices are going to come down and be more affordable for everyone.

that's great news daryl-

i also was guessing you had the price higher for the early release

of some of the videos in the series- and i was kind of waiting on that..

i'm sorry i said anything about he prices being too high- the pricing

is about right- that was my mistake..

i am very much looking forward to the new online library interface

with the search capability..

WYS, I would be quite interested to know how long the Sketchup model took to model to  get it to look like the image.

tim- it took maybe 20 minutes in sketchup and then i

pulled it into revit to render the clay model..

normally i would render that in about 15 minutes

but i threw all the sliders on 10 (except for reflections

and refractions)- and at about twice the print size and

let it go overnight.. the time on it was 4.5 hrs..

There is no reason why that could not be modeled in Revit in that time and you would not need to import it.  You could then develop it from there without drawing it in Sketchup and again in Revit.

I'm with Tim123, that is sooooo simple to do in Revit... Why are you create that in SketchUp than import, than change materials and so one, then.... Do That in Revit...

thanks for your interest guys/gals..

you are both right- you can create the exact same

wireframe mass object with revit massing or sketchup-

or max or bonzai3d etc. etc.

i have been using sketchup AND revit massing

for four years.. i have very much prefered

sketchup over revit massing- and when

revit massing 2010 came along- and with

the ribbon and all- that just meant i was nearly

stopped from getting my ideas down on paper

using that.. and revit has always been a

tough nut for me to crack anyway- probably

because i'm only now getting serious

about turning my geometry into construction

documents like revit is really made for..

also with sketchup or bonzai3d you can just

click on an image of a door or window..

with revit massing you have to have a

real wall (or generic wall) FIRST- and

THEN you have to RENDER it to see it..

as for using the building maker function

part of revit massing- that's a nice deal..

but the bottom line is this- i just want

to get my geometric ideas out there as

quick as i can- anyWAY i can- before i lose them..

and i think it's great that the "factory" rebuilt revit

from the ground up as a 64 bit program for the

future- but the ribbon and the massing i don't

totally understand..
