This is really pissing me off. In older versions of revit, in a section view you can create a roof by extrusion by drawing the sloped line of the roof then telling revit how wide the roof is. ow, in 2010, when i am in the section and try to make a roof by extrusion, revit says i need to pick another work plane, and the only options it gives me are all views perpendicular to the one i want to draw the line in. So i tried starting the command in a perpendicular view than the one i wanted to draw in, but that did not work. So then i tried creating a generic model by extrusion, but apparently that handy command is totally gone from the new revit. WHAT HAPPENED TO GENERIC EXTRUSIONS, SWEEPS, ETC? the 'model mass in place' thing makes no sense. Oh and did i mention the ribbon thing totally blows? excuse the rant but i cant make this curse roof!

Revit was asking politely where you would like the roof to start from, so pick a plane from the list, or pick a plane in the drawing (of course it needs to be perpendicular to the roof). Extrude the roof. If this is not where you want it, adjust it in plan. With regard to the generic model, it would be unlikely that the basics of modelling would suddenly be excluded - you just need to find it. In the home menu, click on the little arrow beneath 'component' and create in place. Then you can use all of the modelling tools and categories. Don't worry about the ribbon - once you're used to it you will feel better.
