I am a total newbie and have been starting to add a few windows....

I added based on Sgl Plain Window family and got a set of windows... no Window Tags...

Then I added based on Sgl Horiz Bars and now I get windows that appear different in elevations since they have a number (Window Tag?) in the center of the window?

Why the different behaviour?  Is the Window Tag creation part of the Family?

Yours confused,SD

Hm... I think I might be confusing myself...

Now I go back and insert windows I always get a Window Tag regardless of family; maybe I had just forgotten that I had been on a tag deleting binge (which in retrospect was wrong since I should have just done a VG and hidden them).

 To complete the thread...

Is a Window Tag always created?  Is the annotation family used for the Window tag always the same for all windows across the project?

TIA (and sorry for the confusion)..,SD

A window tag is always inserted if its set to do this (in visibilty / graphics).  In the case that you need to add some that weren't put in automatically, you can add these afterwards.  You can change the look of the window tag, or create a new one using the window tag template, or have different types if you wish.

Doh.

Tag creation is controlled by the checkbox "Tag on Placement"; I must have clicked on that by mistake at that point.  I now understand the behaviour of that.

Also.. the Family used for the automatically created Tag is depedent on the type being placed and the list of options is controlled by the mapping shown below the "Tags..." button.  Also something I didn't realise.

Finally VG can make tags visible/invisible.

Mysteries solved.

ThanksSD

Something to remember...you may have to turn window tags off in multiple views since they are view dependent. I did not realize this when I first started and it really confused me.  Just food for thought...
