I need to render a standing seam roof in 2009.  What is the easiest way I can render this roof?

If you can find an appropriate material that will give you the ribs - use that.  Otherwise, you may have to model the ribs.

There is a bump map in the library, see attached.  This works well for most situations, but for views that are close up I tend to model the ribs.  This can be done quite easily using curtain systems, or sloped glazing for a roof.

Thanks for you help.  I actually went a different route.  I just copied the roof, place it 1" higher than my original roof and sized it to a seam width and placed it every 8" or so.  It worked great and modeled great.

  1. Put the basic initial roof on the house.. using whatever construction desired (2x12 or trusses with sheathing)
  2. copy that roof and turn it into "Glass Panel"
  3. Then lay the "Glass Panel" onto the roof that you copied.
  4. You can go into the glass panel and change materials so that it matched your desire
  5. Also, you can change the spacing/Size of the Glass Panels
  6. Tada! Standing Seam Metal Roof...

Good Luck! This works really well

I have a semi circle canopy that needs to have a standng seam.  I used the extrustion method to make the roof.  How do I get the ribs to follow the curve of the roof instead of the direction of the extrusion?  Using RA2009.  I used the method of creating 2 roofs, one over the other with the top one being the sloped glazing, for my main hip roof.

CREATE A NEW "PROFILE FAMILY" WITH THE SHAPE YOU WANT, LOAD INTO THE PROJECT, GO TO THE PROJECT BROWSER/FAMILIES AND EXPAND THE CURTAIN WALL MULLIONS, IN THE RECTANGULAR MULLION EXPAND AND DUPLICATE ONE OF THEM, CHANGE THE NAME AND ENTER IN THE PROPERTIES, CHANGE THE "PROFILE" BY THE NEW YOU JUST CREATE, PICK IN THE ROOF (SLOPED GLAZING) AND GO TO THE PROPERTIES, EDIT/NEW AND CHANGE THE LAYOUT BY THE NEW MULLION YOU JUST CREATE BEFORE, CHANGE THE PROPERTIES YOU NEED (FIXED DISTANCE, OFFSET....).

DONE....
