REVIT WILL NOT PERMIT ME TO MAKE A TYPE PARAMETER EQUAL TO AN INTANT PARAMETER

DOES ANYONE HAVE A WORK AROUND?

My window tag extracts the type parameter "Width"

but the width is now governed by a intant paramter "Xwidth"

i can not modify "Width"

so I thought i just make

With=XWidth but that is not permitted

any work arounds?

thank you,

robert.

A type parameter cannot reference an instance parameter, but you should be able to achieve what you want without trying to reference both in a formula.  It seems as if youre trying to make 'Width' both an instance and type parameter?  Tell us in more detail what you are trying to achieve.

tanks for your quick responce Tim.

all my existing window families are type parameters

and the window tag extracts the value of the ""Width" and "Height" parameters

e.g. : Width 2400 x Height 2100  is displayed as 24x21

i can not change this as it would take to long.

i can not change the type parameter of width to a instant parameter

if this would be possible, it would solve my problem

i did manage to delete the Width parameter on plan

and create a new parameter "Width opening"

the old parameter is still showing and i the family types.

would it be possible perhaps to make the

tag read the value of "Width" or "width opening"

tag attached

i do a lot of work where i do not have to use standard windows

and like to copy and covert some to instant parameter

and use both instant and type on the same project

hence my reluctance to change the existing families

thanks so much for your help

robert

Looking at your post, you want the width in mm to display as width/100mm so that 2400mm shows as 24.  If you post your window family it may make it clearer, but I'm not sure why you can't just use a parameter like Width1 = Width/100 and then get Width 1 to display in your tag.

G'day tim,

the family i attached allready does that.

the problem i have is :

most of my famillies use the generic "Width" type paramater and my tag can read

these ok (and convert from mm to meters.

but in the new instant family i could not modify the "Width" type into "Width" instant thats the prob.

i had to create a new name.

i can change the name in the tag but then it will not work with the old type parameters

thanks again

robert

You're either up very late today or very early tomorrow.

Do you have one type of window with width as an instance and another type with width as a type?
