Hi, I'm starting a new project on Revit2009 from scratch and basically I need some help getting started. The project is a Residential home being converted to Commercial. I've started with the default project layout and I want to start with the Basement plan and work up to the Second floor, which is the last. I'm confused about laying out the Plan views because I began with the shell of the project on a Duplicated view of the "Site" plan and I rename it to "Basement". I begin with the concrete foundation walls for my shell and then add some interior walls but I notice that the interior walls, only show up on my "Level 1" plan view. Why is that? Also, when I add doors to the interior walls in what is supposed to be my "Basement" plan view I can't see them and I get an error, but if I switch to "Level 1" the doors and interior walls are shown. I'm sure this is a very basic problem I'm having, but please if the Revitcity community can help me on my way with this amazing program I'd greatly appreciate it! Again, I am new to the program and I'm using Paul Aubin's book for reference, but I'm still kind of stuck. FYI, I need to develop "Existing", "Demolition" and "Proposed" plans for my office as well so any helpful input on organizing myself would be great! Thanks!

Start by setting up levels in an elevation view. You can then create plans from all of these levels. Rather don't use the site for plan views. The site view is already set up to see the view from way above the site. With respect to the walls being drawn on the wrong level I would suspect that the properties of the wall are set to do that, If you click the wall icon and check the properties before you start drawing you will see exactly what will happen when you do draw them.

Thanks for the reply Tim... I'm starting to understand how the plan views work. The elevation tip made it very easy. I've started my plan, but it seems I've run into another problem. I can't seem to load the doors I want to use. For some reason the Type Seletor isn't displaying the door I want and it doesn't even load. What gives?

you must first be in the plan view of the level you want to place the door. use Basics>Door, many options will come up but, there are many more that will load from your library. Make sure your Settings are correct for the load option to look in the correct library. If you are downloading doors from this site or others sometimes the families may not have been made as DOORS families they will be available as components. Hope this helps.
