Ok I've been using Revit for a week now and have started to get to grips with using it but I am working on a project where I need to place canal boats within the model for rendering. I've had a look at the tutorials and still am a bit lost on how the material works when importing a sketchup model in to revit. the fact that when im in 3D mode I can see the colours on the boat but when I render it comes out grey.

The model Im trying to use is http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=94d769a9b6bec72e7a5354a0d63070&prevstart=0

It would be simple if there was a Revit model allready out there that I could use but I have failed to find one.

I even looked at buying one but still couldn't find one.

If anybody could explain to me in very basic terms how I can use this sketchup model in revit with revit materials it would be much appreciated.

Sorry to be a bother but really couldn't get my head around the guides that I was able to find.

Thanks.

I did post several times this same issue, if you import directly to revit you gonna see that kind of advertising (like in the first image attached), so what i do is i go to autocad and change the obj, but if you don't want that you can create a "Metric/Imperial Entourage Family" then import the sketchup model and like you can see in the second image, if you go to the "Object Styles > Imported Objects" you only see the 3 layers with the respective "Render materials" but if you go to the "Settings>Materials" (like in the 3 image) you see the all colors the model are used, what you can do is change those "Render ###..." to the real name you want and change the "Render Appearence" with the material you want, save the model (family) and "load into Project"....

After you "Load into project" go to the "Materials" and check if the "render...." have the materials you just apply in the family...

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH NEHA. THE MATERIAL DOESNT SHOW UP EVEN IF YOU CHANGE THE MATERIAL ON OBJECT SETTINGS AND ACTIVATE THE " USE RENDER APEARANCE. IM USING REVIT 2010. I TRIED ALL THE SUGESTIONS ON THIS THREAD ON SKETCHUP TO REVIT ISSUE BUT NOT 1 SOLVED THE PROBLEM EXCEPT IF IMPORTED AS A MASS. THAT WAY YOU CAN PAINT INTO EACH SURFACE YOUR DESIRED MATERIALS. BUT WHAT I WANT IS TO WORK  ON THE MATERIAL LAYERS AS OTHERS HAS SUGGESTED. IT DIDNT WORK AS WELL. OR MAYBE I MISSED SOMTHING.CAN ANY ONE POST A SCREEN SHOTS ON HOW THEY DO IT???

... ON THE OBJECT STYLES> IMPORTED OBJECTS> MATERIALS IT SEEMS THAT EACH LAYER HAS ALREADY A CORRESPONDNIG MATERIAL APPLIED WHICH IS THE MATERIAL FROM SKETCHUP. I CHANGED THIS MATERIALS AS TYPHOON SUGGESTED INORDER TO CHANGE THE MATERIAL APPLIED TO EACH LAYER WHEN RENDERED. LOAD THE FAMILY TO A PROJECT, RENDER, WHEN ITS DONE THE MATERIAL DONT SHOW UP. ANY INSIGHTS???

I TRIED MODELLING SIMPLE BOXES LAST NYT IN SU,WENT THRU YOUR STEPS AND IT WORKED!! I TRIED THE "PLANT_SAGOPALM" DOWNLOADED FROM SU BUT UNFORTUNATELY THE MATERIALS/COLOR DOESNT CHANGE FOR ME AFTER I CHNGED THE MATERIAL CORRESPONDING TO THE LAYERS. BUT ANYWAY THANKS OR THE ENLIGHTENMENT MARKIE!! MAYBE I SHOULD TRY THE MODEL YOU USED ON YUOR SCREEN SHOTS.

I WENT THRU THE STEPS MARKIE SUGGESTED BUT STILL HAVING PROBLEM ON SU TO REVIT ISSUE. I WONDER WHY  SU MODEL I PERSONALLY CREATED, SAVED AS DWG AND IMPORTED TO REVIT ,CHANGED THE COLOR/MATERIAL OF THE MODEL WORKS FOR ME. BUT WITH MODELS DOWNLOADED ON SU WEBSITE IT DOESNT. I TRIED CHANGING THE COLOR OF EACH LAYER ON A MODEL BUT ONLY1  LAYER COLOR CHANGES AND MOST OF THE TIME ALL IS GRAY WHEN RENDERED. IM USING REVIT 2010 AND 2009 AND SU PRO 6. COULD IT BE A SOFTWARE MALFUNCTION, PC PROBLEM, VIRUS ON MY PC????
