is it possible to bind a picture into a project so that its not linked to anywhere?

normaly they are only linked????

Imported Image is not linked in Revit. What make you think it is a link?

i dont know if you tried it, but if you remove the picture (in the explorer) the picture is gone. no matter  what kind of usage: if i use it as a decal, or as a mapping for rendering, materials...... and so on.

and if you want to insert a pic:

"File_Import/Link_Image..."

revit does not say if its linked or imported. is it now linked ??? or Imported???

confusing!!!

Decals and maps are linked in, but images that are inserted into the project are not linked.  If you delete an inserted image in explorer a copy is retained in the drawing.
