When placing detail tags within a project we noticed they would flood thru many different views instead of only appearing in the view we placed them in. Is their an option to stop the detail tag from showing in other veiws?

What Detail Tags are you referring to? View tags, such as Callout or Section View Tags, or something else? Could you please provide a bit more discription about your question?

You can simply hide them in the view, but you can also control how they display. Find the section tag in a section or elevation, select it and small arrows appear which show the extent of the display of that section. These can be adjusted to suit.

Thats not the issue. The issue is how to prevent them from flooding thru other sheets when placed. We have had to hide them in many other views which is very tedious becuase then we have to check the other views to see which ones it appeared in. We do now want to have to do that we would like to have the tag only appear in the view we place it in.

You can set one up the way you want it and copy it - it will retain the extents of the original section.

Again thats not the issue we are having. The problem we are having is how to set one up so it doesnt appear in a bunch of other views we dont want. If you have an option or parameter we missed that can prevent this from happening please let me know.

I don't believe that there is such an option for sections, but the internal elevations only reference the the level on which they are placed by default - should you not be using these instead?

Im not going to use an internal elevation tag for a valley detail on a roof plan. The fact i have to go into the plans rcp and other sheets to hide that tag once it appears in those views becomes tedious when everytime i add one i then have to go thru the sheets to see which ones it appears on. I gues will just hide the tags and try to catch them when they appear but it seems like it goes against the whole mechanic of having revit help organise sheets more efficiently.

You can unfortunately only work within the parameters of the software. I would recommend that the easiest method is as I suggested in my first post - set the view depth of the section for a particular level and copy it for all the sections in that level. I don't see this as a problem in Revit and I believe that it would complicate the functionality if you had to define the upper and lower limits of each section that you place, when generally a section is used to cut through the whole building. If you are only detailing the roof with these sections then just define it once. Use elevations for the interior views in other levels, although you can use these for the roof also.

in the detail or section or elevation or callout tags you can "hide at scales courser than" say 1/4"=1'-0" This of course doesnt help when you have you have your window schdule at 1/4"=1-0" where you are placing your detail tags and your bathroom callouts are 1/4"=1'-0" as well. Your tags show up in all those 1/4"-1-0" views - I dont want my window tags to show in my enlarged bathroom plans! wtf? When I hide at scales courser than 3/8" my tags go away in my window schedule. **Wishlist Item** Let detail, section, elevation, callout, "types" be controlled through VG settings. This would allow us to create view templetes for views we want these tags to show or not show. TIA

You can duplicate sections and elevations so that you can have different types to display at different scales. In that way you can use View templates to control which views they display in.

Tim, this still doesnt help when you have 2 different views ie. enlarged plans...window schedule @1/4" scale and your window details show in both views b/c they are the same scale....it has nothing to do with type b/c you cannot the visibility of the section detail types through VG settings. I still have to go through and "hide in view" for all tags I do not want to see.

Duplicate the section. I typically have different types of sections in my project, with normal section marks for my main sections and a different type for detail sections with a smaller section head, but you can have as many different types as you wish. A new type of section creates a new category in the browser and can have different properties such 'hide at scales courser than'. The image shows two types of sections and when I change the scale the smaller section will dissappear.
