i am using Revit 2009. I want to make a glass floor but when i edit the structure of it in element properties, it still renders as a solid, not as glass. how can i make a think glass floor to match the exterior glazing wall type? obviously, i cant just rotate a wall and pretend its a floor (which i tried to do). Revit is too smart for that. its gotta be a real floor. any suggestions?

You need to have only one layer with the material of the layer set to glass. If this does not work then check the properties of your material 'glass'.

thanks for the reply. when u edit a walls structure (edit assembly) there are 3 default line items it seems, core, structure, then core again. which one am i supposed to delete exactly? it looks like u cant delete the core ones (the delete bar is gray instead of black meaning its inactive). but when i change the structure to glass, it doesnt appear to change when i render it.

The core layers are not part of the walls and you can't delete them. They just define which part of the wall is considered as being within the core which affects how different elements react with each other. So you should have one layer between the cores. If you have set the one remaining layer to be glass and it is not rendering properly then you have to check the definition of the material in the material editor.

it worked! thank u so much. i just played around with the glass material settings a bit more because some of the glass types are reflective but not transparent, but i was looking for one that is transparent. do u know how i can put mullions in the glass though so it looks like glass panels instead of 1 sheet of glass? also, does anyone know why when i try to load a revit component (i.e. joist girder rfa file) it doesnt appear in my drop down list when i try to put it in the building? Rebecca

To load a component in, go to File / Load from library, and browse to the component that you want in your project. It will then appear in the drop down list. You have a number of options to create the floor panels: Create the floor as a sloped glazing roof and insert gridlines and mullions Create a floor hosted component with parameters for size and depth and place these onto a hidden floor Just model the mullions in your floor separately, through the glass.
