I haven't seen many posts on type catalogs, and none whatsoever on type catalogs with embedded files, so here's my question.  In Revit 2009, I have many crown millwork profiles drawn in individual files embedded into a master family (I took the Crown Molding-Section family that is included in the 2009 version as a starting point).  However, there are so many embedded files that we want to put a type catalog on this master family so that you can choose which one you want in the drawing instead of loading all of them.  There is absolutely nothing in the Revit help file about how to do this and, though I can find examples of families with type catalogs and examples of families with embedded files, I can't find an example of families using both.  Logically, it should work, but....  Help!

Thanks!

The "type catalogue" references parameters within the family that can be used to automate the creation of types not already created.  This keeps you from having to manually create 100 different types with minor variations in dimensions, etc.  When you load the family, the type catalogue pops up and you can select which types you want it to create and load.  However, if you open the family in the family editor, there usually is just a single, "Base" type available.

Basically, I have never seen anyone manually create a bunch of types, then "log" them with a type catalogue, although it sounds like it would be possible.  So... if the parameters of the nested (embedded) families are constrained to the parameters in the Base Family, then creating multiple types from the Base Family should be easy.

Hope that helps Smile
