I've created my studio project using a blended sweep, so I have an irregular shaped building envelope. I would like to support that envelope with a truss system a-la free university of berlin (the picture of this is below). The trusses would wrap around this almost spherical building (but an irregular shape). Do you have any suggestions on how I could make those? Perhaps wrap a railing?

Do you need to model these? You could perhaps just draft them onto the sections. If you do need to model it you can create it by using sweeps with the structure profiles (in the library) and grid lines as a plane. If you need them all I think you will need to model each separately.

Yeah, Tim is right, if you don't want the grid lines create ref. planes and give it the name, then you can select individually work plane from those ref planes...
