Our office is new to Revit so we are going through alot of growing pains as we learn this program. We have a lot ot the modelling isssues worked out but we are now trying to produce CDs from this model. One of the issues we are having is that everything looks flat. We are  used to drawings with different line colors(line weights) in AutoCAD.  The most dramatic sign of this in the elevations. Is there a way to get objects farther back to go to thinner line types or a grey scale. I know on ADT you could set a point were everything went to a specific lineweight.

Also is there a way to draw over the elevations and not have stray lines show up in the plans and sections. Spefically making a heavy profile aroundt he elevations.

Ok I have found the answers to a couple of the issues. I.E. Linework tool. And it looks like in older versions of Revit the distance issue was not possible. Has that changed in Revit 2009?

If it is possible, I would LOVE to know.  We use 2009 in our office and do the same thing with the linework tool on elevations.  Just a tip we discovered... do your linework LAST because if you edit any of the elements the linework disappears.  For example, you outline the roof with the linework tool and then you have to edit it for some reason... no more linework, you must re-do it all.  Sad  Not ideal.

I just did some modification, such as moving or increasing the pitch on the roof and the line weights still stayed the same.  I also experimented on the door and changed the elevation profile weights. Then I changed the door type and the line weight changes still held. What modifications did you do that erased the line weight changes.

Wow!  Well I also did some experiments and it looks like you are right!  I started using Revit in an older version so maybe it has changed in 2009.  I can change some of my habits now.  Previously, the lineweights disappeared when I had to go into a sketch mode or if I moved a wall or something.  I even tested moving an element and the linework seems to move with it.  Great!  Still not as good as Revit actually doing the linework itself though, I agree with you there.  Of all things it can't do, you'd think depth perception wouldn't be one of them.

You can override the surface pattern colours of the walls to show distance from the viewer - overide properties in view.  In the view properties you can also apply a silhouette to the building under Advanced model graphic settings.

When I use the line/pen tool to outline a roof in plan... then when I edit the roof the lines disappear.  That's one situation where it doesn't work.

On a separate note, I have not had success using the sillhouete method for elevations because it thinks everything should be dark, even window & door frames, etc.  Is that adjustable to where it would only outline the very outer lines of the elevation?

This only happens to the roof if you edit the line in question.

You cannot adjust what the sillhouette applies to.  You'll have to use the linework tool for this.
