Help!  We have a view where a curtain wall is isolated (see picture) so it can be dimensioned and placed on a sheet with other curtain walls.  We've been running into problems with this view.  One is that in this particular view, you can select portions of the curtain wall (panels, mullions), but not the entire thing.  You can select the entire curtain wall in other views, just not this one.  Also, you can't select the curtain wall gridlines in this view.  (Using tab doesn't work.)  When you view hidden objects, voila! - there are the gridlines, but when you click on "unhide category" and go back to the normal view, still no gridlines.  What is going on here?  Any help would be much appreciated.

You can try and create a view template from a view that works and apply that to the view.

I don't believe the category is hidden ... otherwise you would see all of the grid lines in the reveal hidden elements.  Instead, click on the gridline and unhide the element in view - not the category.

When you click on the gridline, the option for "unhide element" is greyed out.  (See the picture.)  I've tried several times to unhide the category, but it doesn't have any effect on the view.  What seems to work is clicking on the outline that defines the entire storefront (the wall itself) in the hidden view and selecting "unhide category" (once again, unhide element is not an option).  But then, all the walls in the view come back, which is annoying because we're trying to isolate the storefront, and then they have to be hidden individually.  Any ideas??

I am having the EXACTsame problems with curtain walls. The problem occurs when you isolate only the curtain wall realted categories as visible. The fact that the currtain wall is set to automatically embed might be another reason. I suspect the current wall grids are part of another category - which makes no sense OR if it is set to automatically embed it may require the host wall to be visible. I am looking into it.

I've tried to replicate your problem using different methods to isolate the curtain wall.  Its embedded in a normal wall, which is hidden in the view.  I can still select any component or the whole curtain wall, so I suspect that your problem is something else.  Try this experiment:

Start a new project, draw a wall, draw a curtain wall in it and embed the curtain wall.  In an elevation, select the curtain wall and type HI (isolate element) and then 'Apply Hide / Isolate to view'.  The different components should still be selectable.

Are you using design options?  This might cause the problem (wrong option).

I understand this post is late (only by a few years) but I ran into the same problem in Revit 2012 and figured it out.

The reason the curtain curtain wall gridlines do not show up is probably because the Wall Category is hidden.  The curtain wall gridlines are associated with the wall category, so if you unhide your Walls Category and instead hide each wall individually you should be able to select your curtain wall gridlines.
