I am working on a job where weve used multi users recently.

One of the people who was working on it has left and seems to of deleted his file, which has caused problems. We cannot delete or edit elements as we need his permission, but we cant, is there anyway round it or is it start from new?

Yes.  You will need to change your user name on a new local file to match his.  Make sense?

The only thing you need from this absent user is their username.  Write it down, or copy and paste it from the error message you are receiving.

1.  Close any files you have open of the project.

2.  With no files opened (gray screen) go to the 'Options' under the 'Settings' menu.

3.  In the first tab (General) change your username to match exactly the absent user.

4.  Open the central file and save a local copy.  I would just save it on your desktop since it will be deleted after you are done with it.

5.  Now that you have a local copy belonging to that username, relinquish all rights, and save to central.

6.  Close the file.  Delete the local file you've just created.

7.  You'll now have to change your username back to your username.  See step 3.

8.  For good measure I typicall open the cetral file and recreate a new local file.

Is that clear?  Let me know if it works or doesn't work.

On a side note, does GT stand for Gehry Technologies?

There is a second option if you can not wait for his username:

Open the central files as "detached" and save over the existing file making sure to check the "save as central" option.

This method works great so long as no one else is working on the model currently and they are re-creating their local files on a regular basis.
