I have a structural plan with some cellular beams, where the bottom flange sticks out further than the top.  When I print this it displays as a thick line, which looks odd next to normal beams.  I have tried adjusting my view depths to hide this bottom flange with no success.  Does anyone know a way of doing this that I have not tried???

 Thanks again for your help!

Allan

I wasn't aware Revit shipped with these families until now!  At any rate...

You'll probably want to adjust the visibility of your bottom flange through the actual family- that's my best guess.  But before we go any further- be warned that this will make changes to all beams in your project.  I don't forsee any problems, but it's sometimes difficult to diagnose a problem without seeing it.  SO, MY DISCLAIMER IS THIS:  Be prepared to hit the undo button.

1.  If you are working in the file right now, save to central, relinquish all rights, and close the project.

2.  Open your local copy.

3.  Click on any cellular beam that does not display correctly.

4.  From the editing bar, select 'Edit Family.'  This will open the family for editing.

5.  By default, you should be in a 3D view.  If not, select '3D View' from your project browser.

6.  Select the bottom half of the beam.  The family should be built with a top and bottom extrusion.

7.  From the editing bar, click on the 'Visibility...' button.  From this dialogue you are able to control how each element in the family displays within your project.

8.  For your purposes, you will want to uncheck 'Plan.'

9.  'Load into Projects'

10.  Click the 'Override paramater values of existing types' option and click 'Yes.'

11.  Everything should now display correctly.  If not, select 'Load Family' from the undo pulldown.

At this point I would like to point out that step 11 should not be required.  This is simply 'good practice' if you do not have a solid understanding with families and how they behave.  Of course, you could also go back to the family you've edited, undo to the start, and reload the family in the project.

I don't have a complete description of the problem, or how it was arrived at, so it is difficult to say just what the problem is.  By default, Revit does not typically display extrusions at course level.  I'm assuming you've modified an out-of-the-box family?  Either way, you should be able to control how each piece of the family displays by editing the visibility parameters for each element within the family.

Hope that works, let me know if it does or doesn't.

Have you tried just making a filter with the correct line type that you want?
