Hi, I have setup a curtain wall for precast panels. The panels are basic wall types, with a thickness. They are working fine, and do what I need them to do.

I cannot find a way to apply the hatch pattern as shown in the attached image (from AutoCAD). I can get a circular pattern, but when I have an angled wall, the pattern does not work.

Any ideas on how to acheive this?

You could create a repeating detail for this.

Thanks. Thats a great idea, and does acheive the end goal. It does mean that i need to apply the repeating detail over all of the 1:100 drawings, and manage any changes to the panels manually.

Is there a way to embed the repeating detail into the wall type definition.? This would automate things.'

You could model them in 3d to your panels, although this may make your file larger.  You can create a detail component - line based and then you can just apply it to the centreline of the walls - see this thread for details to achieve something similar.  You will still need to do all your plans, but it should be quicker depending on how many plans you have to do.

Thanks for the input.

I had a look at how its currently done in AutoCAD, as it occurred to me that Autocads hatching cant do this either. In Autocad, its done by using minsert (a block array) and then sizing, rotating into position. A fairly painful task.

In Revit, although its not 100% Automatic, its much faster what can be acheived in AutoCAD.

In summary, for Pre cast Concrete plans:

Define a new mullion called Concrete Pre Cast Panel Joint. Define a Basic Wall type called Concrete Pre Cast Panel.Define a curtain wall type called Concrete Pre Cast Panel Wall.In the Curtain wall Type Parameters, use the basic wall type created earlier as the default Curtain Panel.Set the default vertical mullions to be the mullion created earlier - Adjust other parameters here, based on your preference - eg standard sizes etc Create a new repeating detail family. This is basically a single Circle. Draw it so that '6 o clock' on the circle is coincident with the intersection of the ref plane. Load this family into your template.Define a new repeating detail called Concrete Pre Cast Hatching, and use the family just created. Set the parameter for layout to = fill available space, and tick the Inside option. (this ensures that a full circle does not hang off the end of the panels.)

Now you have it set up, draw your walls, split it into the panels, manually adjust the corner joints as required (move with the disjoin option turned on, or set the intersection to disallow join. To 'hatch' your patterns, select the repeating detail and either draw along the centreline, or using TAB, find the panel centreline and select. Pretty easy to do, and very fast.

Note, if you insert a door, or move, resize panels or walls, you will have to manually adjust the repeating pattern.
