I am a new user to revit and can tell me how to build a building of more than 2 stories,

and how do you put a roof on a 2 story building, - how is it differnt than putting a roof on a 1 story builiding

Go to an elevation or section view and add as many levels as you require (go to view toolbar and add level or just copy an existing one).

dear tim and community, thanks - I am now clear on how to add a level past the second one.

but I am still baffeled on how to add a roof on the second stroy or above and why it is differnt than adding one to a one story building.

You can add the roof to any floor in the same way that you add a roof to the lowest floor.  You can also move roofs up or down once they have been created.
