How do i add section lines to a 3D view, i dont need the actual sections just the lines indicating where i have taken sections through on the sheet.

Although I try to keep everything model based if I can, in this instance, I would just draw them in "paper space". Overtop of your view.

yes, i looked into that but once i am on the sheet, the line icon is greyed out and i cant select it

a ha. most items are greyed out but i do have 'detail lines' available. cheers
