Hi all,

I've been working with some nested families, and am having a little bit of a problem with the arrays when i flex the family.  one of two events happens, either the array begins to veer off in a direction, or the entire array will shift some distance.  see attached screen.  ideas?

i followed this basic idea to get them set up: http://www.revitcity.com/tutorials/arrays_and_nested/page1/

 thanks in advance.

Hi, create a couple of Ref. plans in left and right side where you want to attach the nested family, then with "Align" command constrain the obj. to those lines, after this create the Array and flex the family...

tried this, and it yeilded the same result.  and ill elaborate a little more.  if aligned and not locked, the array will just shift to the right or left (note, the width change is from a fixed corner, not in two directions from a fixed center).  however, if locked, the array will start its angled shift.

hey typhoon,

thanks for this (screen cast and all!! you really went the extra mile!) , however, i dont think you quite understood the issue we are having.   im attaching another screen, this one of the file you sent back, showing the problem again.  the issue happens when we flex the model's width parameter, not any sort of height.  just go in and flex the model's width, and watch the array.

hi see the video:http://screencast.com/t/bmJDLVRTQ

The problem was you create your model (frame and so one) but you forgot to create Ref. Planes and dimension to attach those elements to those Ref. plane, don't attach elements with elements, only with ref. planes or reference lines...

Arrays get very unfriendly when you try locking them to reference lines too much... I'm not sure why this happens, it just does.  My solution has been to make my arrayed objects a "nested family". I reworked your door family with a nested louver and it seemed to flex okay.  See if it works for you?

hey, and thanks again

i just tried it all from scratch, and even without any other geometry, just using the casework template, its predefined width reference lines and a single peice of geometry, i tried to make the object array, and still adjust to the width parameter....

 ...and it didnt work....

 this is getting very frustrating...
