can anyone help me? i am trying to create a .pat file to look like this:

 

16"x16" and 8"x8" squares in this pattern.

any chance you can explain what the number are doing exactly? no big deal if you do not have time. I just need to figure this ou once and for all.

There is an explanation in hte Revit.pat file (not the metric one).  Work through this - once you get the idea then it is fairly logical.

If you look at the top of the file I sent you, you will see a text string explaining each section in a line. It is a little confusing sometimes but basically what a pattern does is array a series of lines that include dashes and spaces. Anyway I usually have to do a lot of trial and error before I get it right so don't worry about not understanding it right now. If you study on it long enough it will eventually make sense.
