how do i delete a dwg file which i imported into a revit project?

Easy, select it and delete it, why, it isn't work.

when i select and delete the imported files still show up when i go to the visibility/graphic override table in the dxg/dgn categories i would like to completely remove it from the revit project

It will disappear from this section only when all instances of the dwg are removed from the project. I assume it was imported as current view only? Check to see if it hasn't been copied to other views and just turned off... HTH.

ok i finally located the imported file ( i had set it to background) now i imported the dwg file as a block and would like to change the line type to hidden without exploding it . how do i do that? i tried using override in the visibility dialog box to no avail any help, any one?

You'd have to make sure the linetype in the dwg file is set bylayer, as otherwise you wouldn't be able to override it in revit... Other option is to use the pick command and pick dashed lines for these then turn off or delete the unwanted layers from the dwg... HTH.

Mr.Spot, Tried your suggestions on making the dwg lines by layer in autocad and even using override in visibility dialog box and still can't get my imported dwg to show hidden line as originally drawn in autocad. haven't tried the pick option though. where do i find pick command? thanks

Depending on your requirements, either use detail lines or model lines then change the draw option to pick (the picture of the arrow). HTH.
