Another fresh-faced Revit recruit joining the ranks...I'm using Revit 2009 attempting to model this roof condition.  I need a little direction figuring out the rotation part.  I've got the roof drawn as two simple sheds sloping inward towards one another, select the roofs in elevation and try to rotate them but get an error "can't change plane of roof sketch."

I'm sure there are several ways one would approach this, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

When you select the roof, click 'edit' at the top of the screen.  You can then rotate the roof in edit mode.

You need to tell us how you created these roofs and what you are trying to do before a good answer can be given.

You set the angle for the roof in edit mode - it cant be rotated in an elevation.  The angle can be negative.  For a roof like yours you can draw the whole thing as one roof with negative angles at the end.

Thanks for the responses...here's the approach I'm attempting:

In the level view I go to >roof >by footprint and draw a rectangle representing one half of the butterfly.  I check "define by slope" for one of the ends.  I suppose at this point I could follow the same process to draw the other half of the butterfly.  The problem I run in to is rotating the butterfly (or even rotating half the roof which is essentially a simple shed).

If I edit the roof and try to define the slope as a negative (adjacent to the line I've already defined as having a slope) I end up with "can't make footprint of roof."  Like tim123 mentioned, I can't rotate it in elevation without getting "can't change plane of roof sketch."

Should I be defining a work plane or maybe using massing tools instead?  It's probably pretty simple, but like I said I haven't been driving Revit that long (yet!).

I haven't use Revit long enough too, but I think, to create roof like that... we can do it either using negatif slope angle by footprint.. or just using Roof by extrusion...

Attached is roof creating with roof by footprint (Left) & roof by extrusion (Right)

Vicozzio has right, i don't see where is the problem to create and/or modify a roof like that, you can create by "footprint or Extrusion".

"Should I be defining a work plane or maybe using massing tools instead?" - For What???

Thanks for the comments thus far.  I guess what my original image doesn't show very well is this butterfly roof is rotated along the longitudial axis.  Attached is a screen cap showing what I'm trying to do -- this is looking at the end condition (transverse) to the roof.  Whether I select the roof assembly or edit the roof and select the sketch, I can't get this to rotate.

If you post that screen shot for the begining i would told you: Massing - Extrusion sweep - roof by face
