Hi, when you click in Render menu you have the choise tho change the "Quality" (draft, low, medium, high, best and custom the parameters), the raytrace option that's no longer valid, but you can "Tell" them if you have exterior light only or interior and so one.

Prior to 2009 I did not think that the rendering in Revit was worth using b/c I could get far better results in other programs in much less time.  II would like to give the rendering in 2009 a test spin and I wanted to know what some people's practices are regarding rendering.  Do you save a detached copy of the project file so that you can strip out uneccesary model content?  do you use clip planes to reduce the 'visible' portion of the model?  Any advice would be appreciated.

i just use camrea view and go to the settings for sun and lights. i render it in draft or med. about 5 times to see if i got the lighting right, the if it looks good ill render it in presintation mode. talks about 30 min. looks good for me. you can check my uploads, i do ok. but im useing the down load v. 2009 trial and when i render it comes out really bad. you cant even see it. scramble eggs. also the download of revit struc. dose the same. iv tried 2 comp. no good. ill see if i can get a disc, maybe it will help or go talk to a reseller..... thanks

I have to say I love the new Mental Ray engine. There are some issue with 2008 projects where not all your materials come over and you have to re-apply, but overall this is a major step forward.

Here's a link to some more info on the rendering: http://www.revitup.co.za/main/page_home_2009_guide_revit_goes_mental.html

It explains about the new Pro Materials, RPC and lighting in Revit.

Here's an image I rendered from an Autodesk model they showed at Tech Camp this year... it took 4 hours on maximum quality... 1/2 that on medium.

There is also the new export format FXB: http://www.revitup.co.za/main/page_news__articles_3ds_max_design.html

allowing you to export to MAX and have your model come in with all the materials, lights and cameras from Revit.

The only thing we have lost is the ability to create Panoramic files directly in Revit and also apply a background image (unless I have missed something)

R09 exports the background as an alpha chanel (read layer) so you can swap it out in photoshop or some other photgraphic editing program.

I found that if you change the settings from screen to printer 300 dpi is good quality. I think the screen settings come out worse for some reason but i still click best settings. not sure but the printer 300 dpi is what i leave it on

Anyone know why my interior lights dont work?

If i set it to "sun and artificial lights" the artificial lights dont work. If i set it to "Artificial lights only" they work. See images
