I created a curved roof with the roof extrusion tool. Now i need to place a ceiling 9" below and parallel to it. So far, all i can see is to create a flat ceiling. Any ideas?? RAC 2008. thanks.

You can create this as an inplace family. Go to the create command on the modeling tab and when a dialog pops up select ceiling. After that you can specify a solid extrusion and pick a work plane to draw on and then you will be able to create any shape you want. For a workplane I usually use a grid, but you can also place a reference plane to work on. HTH Brett

Thanks Brett - that worked!! The component doesnt seem to act like a ceiling though as I have assigned a surface pattern to the other ceiling objects. Doesnt seem to know its a ceiling. I just used a manual override and gave it a surface and it all came in - oddly though but that is probably because it is a concave ceiling.

Glad that worked out for you. You are right, it doesn't have a lot of the options that a ceiling would that was drawn with the ceiling command but it will play host to light fixtures and what not and you can assign materials to it. Again, glad I could help out. Brett
