Hello Revitcity,

I’m pretty new in this forum and in Revit too, but I learned a lot from you guys, especially the things which are not in the manual. Of course there are more questions coming up.

I’m working for an architectural office and our contractor asked us to build a proper Revit model with all the details, sections, floor plans, etc. in it, instead of printout plans. -Are there any other commands except the “run interference check” or “purge unused” which helps us to erase errors, clean up and optimize the file? Or Software? -I know there is software like “Solibri Model Checker” which checks IFC files but we never used it before. Has anybody experience in using this software in combination with Revit (does the ifc import/export works proper) or would you recommend others?-I also read your tips to avoid the slowdown of Revit (like, don’t use implace families, build as less as possible in 3d, draw simple 2d details in revit, use worksets, link instead of import...) which may also help to make the file build correct, I guess.-But, how would you organize that literally the whole project is in one file? Is that common? Does that make sense to you? Wouldn’t that be the overkill for the file?  I have the feeling, that in the end this something like “Workstation vs Revit” (or any BIM application). But is the workstation build yet, which can handle it ? I know these are a lot of questions but I really would be grateful for any Ideas, comments or anything. Thanks for reading this,Veit

Just completed large project in Revit, its still on site but most of the issues are completed. We had to upgrade my computer, unfortuately none of the Engineers used revit so we had to convert all the files. Linking to other files is important, as revit just eats space, workgroups too, but that needs a LOT OF EXPERIENCE, in our office not everyone was up to speed so it was impossible. Revit needs to be controlled carefully, the revision process which caused confusion on site, go for drawing not project. The overall performance of revit as been great, its getting easier now, it will cause your computers to slow down, compared to Autocad its just in a different league. I did complete another smaller project totally in revit resently, it was decided that I should concentrate more on revit due to the productivity gains, unfortuately there as been a lot of back tracking by some so I have been involved in retraining recently as some designers have failed to move on to revit even after external training some time ago, try to avoid going back to autocad.
