I am working in 2008 MEP and the background got moved somehow from another person before I took the job over. Upon updating and going along with the project I was not told by the architect or anyone else. Now I have the job done and upon doing collision detection with another program it is off 20' in two directions. I moved the background in the correct position and tried just moving the plumbing, and it wont work. There is an error message that comes up saying "Can't move these elements at the same time. One of them is restricted to moving in one direction while the other is restricted to moving in a conflicting direction."

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to move this in the correct location without redoing the whole project? (Its 100,000 sq.ft. so id rather not)

Try just moving the architects model to align with yours rather than yours to the architects. Otherwise you have to find everythin (refernce planes, host, etc) which can be nigh on impossible and then move the objects. Or you can copy, turn of the copy tick box and it will just move the objects. the only problem with that is now nothing is going to be assiciated with any working planes which could come back to haunt you during CA.

I would just make a concious decision to always adjust the architects model to be located the same as yours before you link them.... I would also make a note with big bold red letters so that everybody else knows what to do.

This is actually kind of a civil/ architect base model work around that I have seend for years. The civil engineer actually uses a text note to write down the x, y,  z and axis of rotaion that they need to adjust our project to fit into the survey, etc.

BTW if this is somebody from TMAD Tayol and Gaines you could bring your project to the RUGIE meeting tomorrow and we could see if there are any better solutions. If not then maybe you can find help at your own user group....

The whole thing is we are using another program for the clash detection and all they do is import the rvt file. I dont think they can move it in this other program because they would have done it already.

I will do what you are talking about when it comes to printing to city and things in that nature but for the clash detection I need to move the plumbing plan.

And yes this is someone from TMAD Taylor & Gaines but I am in the phoenix office.

If you have the original architetural model you coud move that before you imput it into the other program. Otherwise I guess your best option is to copy the model. Just know that nothing will e associated with a plane anymore so you may have issues when it comes to connectivity and changes during CA.

You should be able to have the architect publish out his cordinates (tools: shared coordiantes: publish coordinates) and then you can import those into your project (tools: shared coordiantes: aquire coordinates). Just learned about this last night. That should line up your two models.

Let me know if it works.
